- In charge of online presence for KNOM Radio (knom.org)
- Oversee all content; write web copy / headlines; edit news stories and other posts
- Manage online writers / reporters; advise on web standards, house style, and best practices
- Create all social media posts: manage daily editorial calendar, promote web stories in social channels, edit photographs and video, curate / share stories from partner news organizations
- Ensure adherence to consistent institutional “voice” and brand of organization online
- Deploy Google Analytics tracking to measure campaign success, online traffic, etc.
- Administrate WordPress site, perform CMS updates, domain / hosting maintenance
- Since 2011, have tripled (300%) monthly visits on KNOM’s website
- Traveled along Alaska’s Iditarod Trail (Anchorage – Nome, approx. 1,000 miles) as photojournalist and on-location web editor / blogger for KNOM’s coverage of 2014 Iditarod Sled Dog Race
- Redesigned, expanded functionality of KNOM website through all-WordPress overhaul in 2013, incremental redesigns 2013 – 2015, and another redesign 2017
- Collaborated with news director to begin publishing daily news stories online, 2013
- Collaborated with development / business office to launch email marketing, 2014
- Write / edit copy, design layouts for monthly fundraising newsletter and for paid print / web ads; distribute content to direct mail, web, email, social media channels; ensure proper messaging
- Write technical / “how-to” documents for internal knowledge base, esp. on web publishing topics
- Lead staff on computer / IT issues; manage KNOM’s Dropbox, Google, Slack, other online accounts
- Programmed, hosted weekday music shows through 2015 (including jazz show described below, under “Producer”); occasionally fill in as live host, 2015 – present, when in Nome, Alaska
- Am first person to hold this position
Outreach Director, 2009 – 2011
- Designed and created new KNOM website from scratch in 2011; incremental redesigns 2012 – 2013
- Created social media profiles for KNOM (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
- Developed online “voice” for KNOM, branding elements for organization (colors, fonts, logo, etc.)
- Recruited / oversaw hiring for producers and reporters; reviewed applications, conducted interviews
- Programmed, hosted weekday music shows (incl. classical / jazz shows described under “Producer”)
- Was first person to hold this position
Producer, 2006 – 2009
- Wrote copy for / produced radio “spots” / PSAs / modules on educational, regional (rural Alaska), and community-oriented topics, including Alaska Native culture and lifestyles
- Researched and curated new jazz and classical music libraries; launched new weekly jazz and classical shows; programmed / created playlists and hosted episodes for entirety of shows’ run (2009 – 2015)
- Hosted on-air 5 days a week in various time slots, including 4-hour-long, flagship morning show
- Produced, hosted hour-long call-in shows (on current events / public affairs)
